Thoughts about the Different Ideas in the Three Theories.

I will discuss about my thoughts on three theories which is Dependency Theory, Underdevelopment Theory and World System Theory with different ideas. Dependency Theory was conceived in 1950s. This theory explain why economic growth in the advanced industralized countries and not necessarily lead to growth in the poorer countries. Poorer countries also refers to developing countries which is more on southern hemisphere, such as Africa countries. Rich countries refers to developed countries such as United States, China, Japan and others. This theory also emphasize of poverty in developing countries, because of integrated with the world systems and also the ways of integrated. Since the first wave of modernization, developing countries are changed or transform by their connections with other nations through their contacts, economics and political ideology. Developments of rich countries and underdevelopment of developing countries is part of historical process too. The causes of underdevelopment of developing countries is due to dependency of industrialized countries. For example, a developing country depending too much towards a develop country in term of exchanging technology, trades, exchanging labours and so on. Thus, this will cause the develop country will become richer and developing country will become poorer.

For the underdevelopment theory, W.W. Rostow from his book, The Stages of Economic Growth: A Non-Communist Manifesto“ (1960) argued that internal factors of a nation are liable for underdevelopment. Examples of internal factors of a nation are lack of education, traditional agrarian structure, traditional mentality of the populace, low division of work, absence of communication and infrastructure. Advancement or development is observed as an expansion of creation and proficiency and estimated fundamentally by contrasting per capita income while underdevelopment happens when a nation can't efficiently retain or absorb and execute these outside powers of modernization. Underdevelopment theories criticize the argument that developing countries are now at the stage once undergone by developed countries. Some scholars propose that developed countries was NEVER UNDERDEVELOPED, but only undeveloped in a certain ways. In my opinion, I understand about underdevelopment theory where developing countries face some internal issues such as illiteracy, low division of work and others causing that country not be increase in term of economic, political and social rate

In World System Theory, Wallerstein characterizes position of nations, regardless of whether they are created or creating on their economic standings at the worldwide level. He separates the capitalist world-economy into centre states, semi-peripheral and peripheral areas. Advanced or developed nations are the centre while the less created are in the periphery. Technology is a main factor in the situating of an area in the centre or the periphery. Periphery region refers to least developed and exploited by the cheap labour. Core region refers to comprised of economically advanced countries which are able to transform raw materials. From example, rubber plantation can produced rubber, which can make tires. Semi-periphery region refers o developing countries which almost want to achieved the status of industrially developed economies country. Wallerstein also argued that term of world system is refer to world economy, coordinated through the market instead of a political focus, where at least two areas are interdependent as for necessities like food, fuel, security, and at least two countries compete for control without the rise of one single focus until the end of time. In my opinion, this theory separated nations into into several positions in term of economically ranks. If a state has high economic rank, will be known as developed country while less economic rank will be known as developing countries due to several factors.
